Issues and Goals
All my life I have championed people and causes related to making government at all levels more honest, responsive and open to the people. My work in the technology field has further strengthened my views of how critical the traits of transparency and open public scrutiny are in creating both a better society and a more vibrant economy.
In my term on the City Council I will work to accomplish the following goals. In all of these I will labor to ensure that the citizens of Clinton are full participants in the process and that the end results are open and available.
- Establish a three year plan and budget for road construction and repairs in Clinton. This will help the City control its budget and will also allow affected residents to plan for the assessments that come with such work.
- Work with County officials to establish a land-use and growth plan for future business and residential development projects. This will allow us to pursue smart growth strategies and target our development efforts - including our tax dollars - in the places where it will do us the most good.
- Establish an economic opportunity reserve fund that will maintain a pool of funding incentives which the City can use to attract major new businesses to the Clinton area.We cannot fritter away our funding resources on each and every project that comes, hat-in-hand to the City for tax abatements or infrastructure improvement assistance.
- Develop policies and processes for the City to open its resources up to the public and make it easier for the citizens to be involved in their government and access City services. This includes improving the appearance and usability of the City’s web site, our window to the rest of the world.
- Improve snow and storm debris removal services. Providing these services is a basic standard of a working government. The quality of these services are an indicator of the health and essential efficiency of the City’s government.
